Bittensor As A Brain In A Jar - Pasted from Discord Empty Bittensor As A Brain In A Jar - Pasted from Discord

I had to take day to figure out how to jump back into this conversation. I was triggered 😆  I know how hard this is going to be and we all have to keep our emotions in check.
Lot's of very valid points brought up. The danger of Bittensor turning into the 'dark web' is very real, and we can't let that happen. There has to be guidance. The foundation seems to be doing a decent job at this early stage and even though I can't find find much info about it, that means not much bad info either.
There needs to be guidance, or censorship, or segmentation, or whatever we decide to call it. What form that takes is important, perhaps more so than we can imagine now. It is more important than NSFW. I saw this today and clickbait aside, it is one of the best explainations of the danger we are in.

Lots of good examples in there and easy to understand once you get passed the hyperbole.
The message in that video is a great frame, and hopefully focus, for what we have to do around the governance of what is being built here. The danger is more than possible dirty pictures. Although, dirty pictures seem to be a great starting point.
This is the idea I am playing with right now as metaphor. I see Bittensor as the cliched 'brain in a jar'. The miners being the brain, the validators the senses, the feedback between them the source of growth.

And if we are communally building this brain and mirroring our own brain structures(which is an easy metaphor to make) wouldn't it make sense to use study of how our own brain works to design governance structures?
For example, the 'Foundation' and the original devs becoming the deep automatic and ancient part of the brain, in charge of breathing and the unthinking mechanisms that go on through the system but are very powerful in the case of emergency. Easy to see a kind of governance flowing from that idea.

As the miners refine and grow in strength they need another kind of governance that is more closely linked to the validators in the sense of the validators telling them what to learn based on the scoring and actual inquiries. (Schooling would be another metaphor) What the miners get good at is directly linked to what the validators view as 'good' and what they want the miners to 'do'. This is another form of governance completely. One with deep ties to value creation and needing a trust relationship between the miners and validators that is extremely unique.
The master and his emissary comes to mind for understanding that relationship https://youtu.be/dFs9WO2B8uI

Which then brings is to the frontal lobes, the new part of the brain. The 'thinking part' that we think we can control. The drama center, emotions and the like. What makes use 'human' to some. This conversation would be part of that model and would need a completely different form of governance. The noisy kind.

I will try to write up some more and sketch out more metaphors for my attempt to make sense of these ideas when I get more time, but that is the outline. So how would we get a handle on the NSFW stuff? Maybe study the brain for answers.

I don't think that we can get rid of it completely anymore than we can get rid of sexual thoughts in the human brain. We all know what happens to a human when sexuality is either let loose with no rules or completely controlled with no outlet for expression. Both create deep dysfunction. We should argue about where the limits are.

There HAS to be a filter somewhere. If someone makes a request for something safe and it returns pornography that is NOT ok. Ever. Does that responsibilty lie with the validator or the miner? Both? That seems like a great place to start.
Does that filter get placed on the entire miner set? Or validator set? What are the technical details on that?
Can validators place that filter on their returns and be sure their produced content is safe? What are the general standards industry wide? Discord has a great filter for example. Is it open source?

I find it hard to think of governance structures without these details know. If they are possible to be know of course! If not, I think our discussions on the topic will be fruitless and dangerously emotional. We have to come to an agreement about this stuff sooner than later. I have a feeling that soon events will overtake us and we will need some trust structures in place before that happens.
